Town Hall Meetings To Set Tone At Miami Conference Washington, D.C.–Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) announced today that it will feature two major town hall meetings at the upcoming Miami Conference that will focus on current issues affecting both the Caribbean and Central American regions. The “Focus on the Caribbean” and “Focus on Central America/Dominican Republic” sessions will be held concurrently on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Though the region’s economic performance has been its best in decades, the current state of the global economy will test the countries of the region, especially as it relates to the rising costs of energy, cutbacks in air transportation, the growing international financial crisis, recent storms and a food security crisis. The town hall sessions will feature senior policy and private sector leaders from the banking, tourism and trading community who will provide a flank assessment of the region’s vulnerability and insight on short and long term mechanisms that need to be implemented in order for the countries of the region to not only survive the global slowdown but to thrive in what promises to be a difficult environment. These sessions are designed to set the tone for the remainder of the industry and public policy discussions that will follow. The town hall sessions follow a CEO Forum that will feature corporate leaders representing manufacturing, financial services and tourism conglomerates in the Caribbean and Central America. The Annual Miami Conference continues to be the only forum that focuses solely on the economies of the Caribbean and Central America. The conference brings leaders from the public sector, the business community and civil society together in a constructive dialogue to address issues affecting the region and its economic prospects. It combines major addresses by political leaders with workshops on industry and public policy issues. Roundtables give participants the opportunity to participate in a series of interactive discussions with subject-matter experts from the United States, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central America on issues vital to the agribusiness, apparel, energy, financial services, technology, telecommunications, transportation, and tourism industry sectors.
