Prime Minister David Thompson of Barbados Confirmed for Upcoming 32nd Annual Miami Conference Washington, D.C.–Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) announced today the confirmed participation of The Honorable David Thompson, Prime Minister of Barbados at the upcoming 32nd Annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean and Central America. The conference will take place from December 1-3, 2008 at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Miami, Florida. Prime Minister Thompson will deliver the keynote address at the plenary dinner on Tuesday, December 2nd. Prime Minister Thompson was born on December 25th, 1961 in London. He was educated at St. Gabriel’s Junior School and later Combermere School for secondary education. He went on to earn an honors law degree from the Law Faculty of the University of West Indies before pursuing the Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. After formal education, he worked at Trident Chambers and served as a part time tutor in law at the University of the West Indies. Prime Minister Thompson’s first Cabinet appointment was in 1991 when he was made Minister of Community Development and Culture. From 1992 to 1993 he headed the Ministry of Finance as Minister of State and between 1993 and 1994 he assumed full responsibility for that Ministry. In 2008 under his leadership the Democratic Labor Party of Barbados won the general election and he was sworn in as the sixth Prime Minister of Barbados on the 16th of January. Prime Minister Thompson is married to Marie-Josephine Mara and is the father to three daughters.
