CCAA Delivers Cargo Container Screening Course in Haiti

Washington, D.C.–Caribbean Central American Action announced today, the completion of a Cargo Container Screening program in Haiti under the Maritime Security Alliance for Haiti (MSAH). The MSAH is an initiative funded partially by the United States Agency United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and matched by the Haitian Government and the business community.

The Cargo Container Screening training course, completed May 12 is part of an on-going maritime security-strengthening program being implemented in Haiti to support the countries international and local ports. The CCAA led initiative is focused on Haiti’s compliance with the IMO’s International Ships and Port Security (ISPS) and United States’ Maritime security Transportation Security Act, and is geared towards ensuring that the flow of goods and services to Haiti continue uninterrupted.

Fifty participants, from both the public and private sector maritime community attended the training that provided the attendees with both classroom and field training in specific screening and search techniques for cargo container inspections. The MSAH has provided guard training, specific port facility officer instructions as well as engineering and security assessments for Haiti. The initiative has also hosted a series of public awareness programs to inform the maritime port users and service providers as well as the public of the importance of maritime security compliance on commerce and trade.
