CCAA Announces Logistics Performance Alliance With Caribbean Shipping Association & Florida Shipowners Group Washington, DC — CCAA announced today the launch of an alliance with the Caribbean Shipping Association and the Florida Shipowners Group on logistics performance in the region. The initiative seeks to record and post information related to the efficient movement of goods. Currently, it tracks the number of container moves per hour loading and unloading a ship and the time it takes for a ship to berth at a sampling of countries in the Caribbean. The monthly port efficiency report comes from the ocean carrier members of the Florida Shipowners Group. The program is expected to include cruise lines port efficiency metrics and increase the number of carriers that collect this key information. The intent is to identify on a regular basis some of the key elements related to the movement of goods in countries at the port level. While the reports do not delve into customs operations on a country to country basis, it does provide key indicators related to trade facilitation. Importantly, this information will be used as part of the selection criteria by the Caribbean Shipping Association as it expands its annual Port Awards Program. CCAA has long viewed logistics performance as key to regional development and has worked closely with members of both the maritime and air express industry on ways to improve regional performance. The organization's initiatives have included hosting conferences on the issue, as well as sessions at its annual Miami Conference, and submitting recommendations to regional entities including the Caribbean Customs and Law Enforcement Council and CARICOM. CCAA has also advocated for time release surveys in Central America with the Latin American Association of Express Delivery Companies (CLADEC). Recently CCAA has focused on the development of solutions to the new security overlay that accompanies trade post 9/11. CCAA transportation team members include Terminal Varreaux, Tropical Shipping, Seaboard Marine, FedEx and Aeropost International. Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) is a non-governmental organization that promotes private sector-led economic development in the Caribbean Basin.
