SPECIAL MIAMI CONFERENCE PARTNERSHIP EVENT: NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION FIELD TRIP AND COLLATERAL BREAKFAST Washington, DC — Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) announces a special partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), for the 33rd Annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean and Central America. The Conference will take place from November 30th to December 2nd, 2009, at the InterContinental Hotel in Miami, FL. Conference participants will benefit from a field trip to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and to the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) on Monday, November 30, as well as from a special breakfast presentation on Wednesday, December 2. This partnership will allow Conference participants to learn about the tools that NOAA is using to help the Caribbean Basin in its disaster preparedness and in the protection of its natural resources, two issues that have a direct impact on the economies of the region. The November 30 Field Trip will first go to the NHC headquarters where visitors will meet with specialists as well as the NHC Director to view the technology and tools that are used to forecast weather events and share information with the Caribbean Basin community. Participants will then go to the AOML and Southeast Fisheries Science Center to learn about tools and research related to global ocean observing, climate research, coastal ecosystems, and fisheries and hurricanes. Researchers and the AOML Deputy Director will be on hand to answer questions. The breakfast will feature a discussion on NOAA's programs related to the Caribbean Basin and opportunities for greater collaboration. Participation in the Field Trip and the Breakfast is limited. Please contact sybaker@c-caa.org if you are interested in joining either or both of these events. CCAA's Miami Conference on the Caribbean and Central America continues to be the premiere trade and policy forum for the countries of the Caribbean Basin. Titled "Responding to Global Challenges: Surviving and Prospering in Today's Economy," the 2009 Conference will highlight how the governments and the private sector of the Caribbean and Central America are addressing the multiple economic and political events that have dominated the past year and how the region's international partners are working through the challenges with them.
