Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham of The Bahamas Confirmed for 31st Miami Conference

Washington, D.C.–Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) announced today that The Honorable Hubert Ingraham, Prime Minister of The Bahamas, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming 31st Miami Conference on the Caribbean Basin. The Conference is scheduled to take place December 3-5, 2007 at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Miami Florida.

Prime Minister Ingraham will deliver a keynote address as well as receive the organization’s Star of the Caribbean Award on the evening of December 5th.

The Star of the Caribbean Award is given in recognition of distinguished service and committed efforts to improve the economic well being of the people of the Caribbean Basin. Past recipients of the Star of the Caribbean Award include: President Ricardo Maduro of Honduras, Prime Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad & Tobago, Prime Minister Owen Arthur of Barbados, President Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic, U.S. Senator Robert Graham, as well as other influential Presidents, Prime Ministers, and private sector leaders of the region.

Prime Minister Ingraham was sworn in as the fourth Prime Minister of the Bahamas on May 4, 2007. Prime Minister Ingraham is also the Minister of Finance. Mr. Ingraham previously served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms between 1992 and 2992 when he voluntarily close not to seek re-election to leadership of his party. Of humble beginnings, Prime Minister Ingraham has consistently called for honest, open, transparent and accountable government and his terms in government have been marked by deliberate reductions in the size of government, and the promotion of private sector led economic development, both local and international. He and his government were credited with the revitalization of The Bahamas economy since 1992, most particularly in its tourism and financial services sectors.

CCAA's Miami Conference remains the only forum that focuses specific attention on the smaller economies of the Caribbean and Central America. Invited heads of state for this year’s Conference include Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis, Nelson Oduber, Prime Minister of Aruba, Leonel Fernandez President of the Dominican Republic, Martin Torrijos Espino, President of Republic of Panama, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, Oscar Arias, President of Costa Rica and John de Jongh, Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
