Haiti Earthquake: Washington, DC — Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) joins the voices from around the world in expressing its profound sympathy for the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck that country on January 12, 2010. CCAA encourages all of our colleagues and friends to become involved in the relief efforts. First and foremost, the most effective way to do so is through monetary donations to organizations that are coordinating emergency response. The following organizations, among others, are mobilizing rapidly:
CCAA will stay in touch with these organizations, as well as with USAID and other Government agencies, and will provide updates to members and others who would like to receive them. To receive updates as they become available, please contact sybaker@c-caa.org. Our colleague, Anton Edmunds, is in Haiti and has conveyed the sense of shock that has settled on Port-au-Prince. CCAA has a long history in that country and we are deeply concerned for our family, friends and colleagues. We are hopeful that the resilience of the Haitian people will stay with them during this tragedy that has befallen a country that has seen more than its fair share in just recent years. International support to Haiti is critical. We encourage all of our colleagues to play a part at this very difficult time. # # # |
