The Caribbean has responded to these transitions within the global economy by repositioning itself for trade and investment through deepening the of regional integration process. The implementation of the CSME and the introduction of VAT-type regimes throughout the region will undoubtedly bring about many challenges for the business sector and all peoples of the region. It is within this context that we conceptualized a conference that is aimed at professionals and all classes of the business sector from across the region, especially CSME countries, and geared toward dissemination of vital information on VAT and international trade matters in a CSME and international environment. Focus areas include investments in the CSME; VAT- the new regional tax regime; financial services; free movement of capital, goods and skilled labour; the impact of a common currency on trade; the CSME and trade in the global economy; and the economic partnership agreement and other CARICOM bilateral agreements. The Conference will feature some of the top regional and international experts in the various disciplines, all quite competent of responding to the various questions and concerns. The timing of this conference is therefore of particular significance. Participants from Canada, Europe, the United States and Latin America will gain first hand knowledge on doing business with CARICOM States. More specifically, it will provide and ideal environment for participants to gain vital information on the specifics of the CSME and the workings of VAT-type regimes and their impact on the way in which they do business with states operating under such regimes.
